When I started writing on this blog, none of what's happened since would have seemed plausible to me. A bridge opening, a metro running, an economy holding steady through a global crisis, and then, within a couple of years, a government toppled, a party banned, friends and family scattered or silenced. It's been a strange four years to live through, let alone write about honestly.
I've tried, in these posts, to hold two things at once: real pride in what got built during those years, and real grief over how it all came apart and what's happened to people I care about since. I know plenty of readers will think I'm biased, and they're right, I am, I've never pretended otherwise on this blog. But bias isn't the same thing as dishonesty, and I've tried hard not to lie about what I've seen, even when the truth was uncomfortable for my own side.
I don't know what the next few years hold for this party or this country. Elections may or may not happen on the timeline anyone's promising. But I know I'm not going to stop writing about it, because I think the people who lived through this deserve more than one version of the story, and this has always been mine.
