The Attacks Keep Happening, and the World Keeps Looking Away

A family friend's temple in a village outside Jessore was vandalized again a few weeks ago, the third such incident I've heard about secondhand just this year. It barely registered as news outside of local reporting, if it registered at all.

I want to be careful here, because I know exaggeration doesn't help anyone and I'm relying on accounts from people I trust rather than something I witnessed directly. But the pattern I keep hearing about, from multiple districts, from people with no reason to coordinate a story, is consistent: religious minorities and families known to have AL ties continuing to face harassment, property damage, and social exclusion well over a year after the transition, with local law enforcement often slow to respond or unwilling to get involved.

I don't think this is what anyone abroad who cheered on the change in government back in 2024 actually wanted to see happen. But I also think silence about it, including international silence, makes it easier for these incidents to keep happening without consequence. I'm not asking anyone to take my word alone for this. I'm asking people to actually look into it, because the families living through it don't have the platform to make their own case the way international commentary about the 'new Bangladesh' does.
